The New You

All those who heard him were astonished and asked, “Isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn’t he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?” Acts 9:21                       

To describe it as a party would be overgenerous. It was not a party.  My family and I rung in the New Year alongside two other couples and their kids. We ate pizza, played games and told parenting jokes. It was simple, mostly quiet, and no one had to call AAA for a ride home. New York sure knows how to party.

The New Year’s Eve celebration at Times Square is a world-renown time honored tradition. Close to a million people crowd 17 blocks in Manhattan to join in the festivities. Millions more take in the sights and sounds from the comfort of their own home. This festive occasion doesn’t have many rivals.

Getting everything ready for a New York New Year’s Eve extravaganza takes a lot of time, effort and money (the ball alone costs a few million bucks). But like most grand parties those who attend don’t have to consider the details. No thoughts are wasted on blocking off streets, coordinating police officers or ordering the party favors.
